About Kate
Kate Ledingham (she/her) is the heart behind Speechcare—a neurodiversity-affirming speech pathologist, community advocate, and proud mum of two. She brings warmth, empathy, and a deep respect for all forms of communication into everything she does. For Kate, it’s never just about therapy—it’s about building genuine relationships, reducing isolation, and helping people feel safe, understood, and truly accepted for who they are.
Kate’s path into speech pathology wasn’t linear. After completing a Bachelor of Business at the University of Tasmania in 2008, she realised her true calling was in supporting people to connect and communicate in ways that work for them. She completed her Master’s in Speech Pathology at the University of Queensland in 2012 and has spent the years since walking alongside neurodivergent individuals and families with curiosity and care.
Now the Director of Speechcare, Kate leads a thoughtful and committed team of clinicians who share her values of neurodiversity-affirming, person-led support. She works closely with schools, early learning centres, and community organisations to create inclusive environments where communication differences are embraced and where children and young people don’t have to mask or change who they are to belong.
Kate is especially dedicated to improving the quality and consistency of affirming practice across private allied health. She mentors new graduates, collaborates with colleagues across the sector, and advocates for a shift away from deficit-based models toward approaches that centre dignity, autonomy, and lived experience.
With several years of international experience in the UK, Kate has supported autistic students and others with communication differences, while equipping families and educators with practical, respectful strategies that empower rather than “correct.” Her work is always grounded in connection, collaboration, and the belief that all people deserve to be celebrated just as they are.
As a mum, Kate understands how much it matters for families to feel seen and supported—not just clinically, but emotionally and socially. Her mission is simple and heartfelt: to help build a world where neurodivergent children and adults feel connected, valued, and deeply included in every part of life.
