ASSESSMENTS
Autism Assessments
At SpeechCare, we believe every individual experiences the world in their own unique way. Our Autism assessments are grounded in a Neurodiversity Affirming Approach—recognising and respecting differences while supporting each person’s strengths and needs. We work in partnership with families, listening carefully and valuing their insights every step of the way.
Our assessments are thorough, compassionate, and designed to provide clarity, support, and a positive path forward. For a detailed overview, you can download our full assessment guide.
Bilingual Assessments
Every language a child speaks is a part of who they are. At SpeechCare, our bilingual assessments are designed to understand how children use both of their languages—at home, at school, and in their daily lives. By assessing each language individually, we can tell whether difficulties are related to language learning or something more. Our Speech Pathologists are experienced in working across cultures and languages, and we work closely with families to ensure assessments are respectful, accurate, and supportive. We’re here to help bilingual children shine in every language they speak.
AFTER DIAGNOSIS
What to Expect After a Diagnosis
Receiving a diagnosis can bring a mix of emotions—relief, clarity, confusion, or even grief. All of these feelings are completely normal. At SpeechCare, we’re here to walk alongside you as you process what this means for your child and your family. A diagnosis is not the end—it’s a starting point. It helps us better understand how to support your child’s unique strengths and challenges. We’ll work with you to create a plan that feels realistic, compassionate, and empowering. You are not alone—we’re here to help you take the next step, one day at a time.
INTERVENTION
Why Early Intervention Matters
Early intervention can make a world of difference in a child’s development. The early years are a critical time for learning, and with the right support, children can build strong foundations for communication, social skills, and confidence. At SpeechCare, we take a holistic approach—looking at the whole child, not just their speech or language. We work closely with families, educators, and other professionals to create a supportive, nurturing environment where children can thrive. Together, we celebrate each small step forward, because every milestone matters.
ALLIED HEALTH ASSISTANTS
How Allied Health Assistants Support Your Child
After a diagnosis, you might hear about Allied Health Assistants (AHAs) as part of your child’s support team. AHAs work under the guidance of a qualified Speech Pathologist to help deliver therapy activities and support your child’s goals in fun, practical ways. They help extend therapy into everyday routines, offering more regular, hands-on support. It’s a team effort—and AHAs are a valuable part of helping your child grow and thrive.
SCHOOL SUPPORTS
Supporting Your Child at School
At SpeechCare, we bring our expertise directly into schools to help children thrive where they learn best. Our Speech Pathologists work alongside teachers, families, and school staff to provide tailored support—from one-on-one sessions to small group programs and staff training. We’re already supporting students across several Brisbane schools and kindergartens, offering practical, collaborative strategies that make a real difference in the classroom and beyond.
INCLUSION SUPPORT
Championing Inclusion for Every Child
At SpeechCare, we believe every child deserves to feel seen, heard, and supported. Our Inclusion Support services help create learning environments where all children—regardless of their communication style, learning needs, or background—can participate and belong. We work closely with educators, families, and other professionals to tailor strategies that are practical, respectful, and empowering. Together, we build inclusive communities where every child can shine.
FAQs
What Does a Speech Pathologist Do Outside of Sessions?
Understanding the work that supports your child’s progress: At first glance, speech pathology may seem like it’s all about the time we spend face-to-face with your child — but much of the real magic happens behind the scenes.
Here are the most common questions we get from parents about the “indirect” work we do — and why it’s essential for your child’s success.
Why am I being charged for time when my child isn't in a session?
Great question. The fee you pay doesn’t just cover the minutes we spend in a room with your child — it includes everything we do to ensure those sessions are meaningful, personalised, and effective. This includes planning, collaboration, documentation, and strategy development, all of which are vital to your child’s outcomes.
What kind of work happens behind the scenes?
Here’s what we regularly do outside of sessions:
- Individualised Therapy Planning – tailoring each session to suit your child’s needs, strengths, goals, and interests
- Curriculum Integration – aligning activities with what’s happening in the classroom
- Collaboration with Teachers and Staff – sharing strategies and goals so they can support your child throughout the school day
- Progress Monitoring and Goal Updating – reviewing notes, analysing progress, and adjusting therapy plans
- Resource Development – creating visual supports, home programs, and practice activities
- Report Writing – preparing documentation for you, the school, or other professionals
- Team Meetings – participating in student support planning with the school team or other professionals
Why is this indirect time important for my child’s success?
Because real progress doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens when:
- The classroom teacher knows how to support your child’s language or communication needs
- Goals are integrated into daily routines, not just one session per week
- Strategies are updated based on how your child is responding in real-time
- Everyone on the team is working together toward the same outcomes
This kind of wraparound support ensures that therapy is not just effective — it’s sustainable, practical, and embedded into your child’s everyday learning environment.
How does this benefit my family?
You’re not just paying for therapy time — you’re investing in a coordinated, high-quality support system that maximises every opportunity your child has to learn and communicate more confidently, both at school and at home.
